This ‘Ecclesiastical Purple’ is the very same one used on the walls of the Holbein Chamber at Horace Walpole’s villa in Twickenham. The rim is beaten copper plated in 24 carat gold. Immediately adjacent to the rim, 24 carat gold leaf was applied on top of the painted surface.
